A Vision for No-kill Community
Heidi Sexton, the Board President at the High Desert Humane Society, has been coming to all of our Animal Friends of New Mexico meetings and has been really wonderful, informative and genuinely helpful. She said that the "Coalition for Pets and People" in Las Cruces has a "Zero in Seven" plan...which is a commitment to move to a zero euthanasia rate within seven years...and she expressed a great enthusiasm and belief that this type of goal/plan is totally feasible and possible for us to accomplish here in our own community. We want to let everyone know this so that those among us who have an interest in learning more about existing no-kill transition models like the one they have there (as well as others across the country) can explore this topic knowing there is really good chance we will make this happen in months and years ahead. The Animal Friends of New Mexico will definitely be engaged in helping to get a vision/design/plan laid out that the Humane Society and the County and City can all embrace....WOW!!! WE ARE SO HAPPY about this.
Here is a link to a rough draft for our area based on the Zero in Seven initiative....which we will use as a basic starting point.

"Duchess the Dutch Shepherd" R.I.P. Died October 31, 2012
This darling girl "Duchess" was recently euthanized and her passing became the inspiration for beginning the Animal Friends of New Mexico. Won't it be wonderful to make a transition in our community to a place where no healthy dog or cat is euthanized due to lack of shelter space or over-population? Let's work together to make this happen for us all. To join us in making the vision a reality....please contact us using the contact form below.
